21st May 2026: morning and afternoonTechnical visit to ITER fusion tokamak
How can I register for an ITER visit ?
Two visits are proposed on the 21st of May for the conference participants. The number of places is limited to a maximum of 50 people per visit (first come / first served). The first visit will be at 11:00 and the second one at 15:00. If you are interested by these visits, please verify on your profile page that you have selected either the “morning” or “afternoon” ITER visit. On the contrary, if you have already selected a time slot for a visit but can no longer attend for any reason, please cancel your registration for that tour from your profile. This will allow other participants to register if the tours are full. No changes can be made after mid-April.
How long will the ITER visit last?
The ITER visit will last approximately 2.5 hours. It is mandatory to be at the main entrance 20 minutes at least before the scheduled start time of the visit to complete security formalities. Therefore, for the morning visit starting at 11:00, plan to be at the ITER site from 10:30 to 13:30, and for the afternoon visit starting at 15:00, plan to be there from 14:30 to 17:30.
How do I get to the ITER site and how long does it take?
A bus will transport participants between the conference Hotel (Hotel Aquabella) and the ITER site. The journey typically takes 45 minutes to 1 hour, depending on traffic. For the 11:00 visit, the bus will depart from hotel Aquabella at 09:30 and should return before 15:00. For the 15:00 visit, the bus will leave at 13:30 and should return before 19:00.
Could I go/leave the ITER site on my own, and can I bring my suitcase?
The bus will enter the ITER site for parts of the visit that are conducted outdoors. For security reasons, the bus must be empty upon entry. If you plan to leave the site immediately after the visit via taxis or other means, you can bring your suitcase on the bus. However, you will need to remove it at the site entrance and store it in a designated locker. Alternatively, you can also rent a car to travel to and from the ITER site, as parking is available at the entrance. You will still be able to use the bus for the visit portion along with other participants.
Can I bring an accompanying person with me on the visit?
Yes if they are older than 16 years old (minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian) and if they are registered as accompanying person.
In preparing for the visit, do I need to register in advance (how long ?) and do I need to provide identification to register and when I visit?
Yes, personal ID information will be asked to registered participants soon and a reply is required from then with all information no later than April 17th. ID Card or Passeport will be mandatory to enter the ITER site on May 21st (copies of ID documents, driver’s licenses or professional badges are not accepted).
Are there further details at the ITER site as to what is included in the visit? Are there provisions for visitors with handicaps (wheelchair, walking frame, partially sited ...)?
Unfortunately, the construction site of this R&D nuclear facility is not accessible to reduced mobility participants. The visit includes a presentation at the ITER Visitors Centre, where you will also be able to enjoy a panoramic view of the worksite and a tour of the worksite by bus. Depending on on-going activities on site the day of the visit, you may also have access to the assembly hall of ITER. Access to the Tokamak building is now extremely restricted for operational and security reasons. For further information, please visit https://www.iter.org/about/visiting-iter/group-visits.
